PROVISIONAL SUMS, are allowances for specific elements of work not yet defined in enough detail for the builder to price
PRIME COST SUM, often called a PC sum is an allowance for the supply of services and or materials to be provided by a specialist contractor or supplier that will be nominated by the client.
PROVISIONAL SUMS may eventually become subject to a architects or client instruction during the construction phase, and the items will then be incorporated into the works, subject to the appropriate contract rules for measurement and valuation.
If your not working under an agreed form of contract such as JCT, we strongly recommend you include a note in your quote to the following
Any provisional sums used in this quotation are subject to the resubmission of a firm fixed price, once the full detailed extent of the works have been established, prior to any item of works contained in the provisional sums taking place.
